The Bright Method
This method book is for students of all ages, from beginners to advanced-intermediate. The 24 units of Volume I cover breathing, sound production, sirens, flow studies, scale studies, comprehensive rhythm, articulation, finger technique, harmonics/flexibility, ear training, an etude, and a duet. Skills are progressively introduced, connected, and reviewed in a concise manner.
Many other method books push high range too soon, causing students to force the end result without learning proper balance, which leads them down a path of immense frustration. This book helps students find their own body’s “trumpet control panel”, unlocking the physical balance that allows high range and sound production to bloom.
Many other method books are also geared towards a single type of inner mouth shape, resulting in confusion for students who are shaped differently. This book helps students identify their own inner mouth shape, thus helping them find their own unique control panel that can unlock their range and ease of sound production.
While there is more material out there than ever before, many students feel lost in knowing what to do with it. This book is set up to show students the optimal sequence of what to practice in what order and, most important, what to THINK about when practicing these skills. This leads to more productive practicing and better skill development long-term.
This book is for private trumpet teachers and their students of any age from beginner through intermediate/advanced. This is also for advanced students who suffer from injury, tension issues, or a perpetual weakness in their playing, who sense they need a reset with clearer fundamental concepts. This book is also for comeback players or any student who doesn’t have access to a teacher. This book is also perfect for university Trumpet Pedagogy classes.
Some students may start out going through one unit per week while other students need several weeks to get through a single unit. Take the time you need to learn the concepts correctly. In the later units, it’s recommended that students spend several weeks on a unit before continuing. Once the whole book is complete, try cycling back through, playing one unit each day as a general fundamentals routine before practicing other material.
